School Council

Autumn Term 2026-27

Welcome to our Stoke Primary School council for 2026-2027.

They have been so busy already, giving their reasons for wanting to be on the School Council and what they would like to achieve whilst being on the School Council.

Later this afternoon 30th September, each School Councillor will receive an invite to spend a

"Day in someone else's shoes".

They will receive them just before they go home.

This will be a great opportunity for them I believe they will have an absolutely amazing day having new experiences learning new skills.

Wow the response from the children was unbelievable.

They were so excited and eager to come to school on Thursday 1st October.

Miss Hughes (The Meadow)

Today Lily -May stepped into my shoes as (mini - me) Miss Hughes, Class teacher of The Meadow.

Lily-May was fantastic - she came prepared, bringing a story from home and planning her own learning objective - teaching the children to count backwards from 10. Her activity was engaging, energetic and lots of fun.

She was brilliant with the children: kind, gentle enthusiastic and with high expectations, she praised good behaviour and handed out well earned stickers and shared our message of "ambitious learners".

She also tackled the many jobs that come along with running The Meadow - from admin and making phone calls to greeting visitors, creating displays and even treating staff to chocolate to boost morale!

She did a fabulous job of running The Meadow today and was a truly amazing teacher.

Miss Waine (Office)

It was lovely having a Year 2 pupil join us for a "Day in your shoes". She was such a lovely, polite and enthusiastic girl and it was great to have her involvement in our day-to-day work. She helped us with a variety of tasks, including stapling, printing, sorting deliveries and organising paperwork. She was really keen to get involved and took everything in her stride. It was really lovely seeing her enjoy the different tasks and ask questions about what we do. I had a great day with her and really enjoyed giving her a little insight into our working day is like. We would love to welcome her back into the office in the future. :)

Miss Fenlon (Family Team Lead / DDSL)

Yasin spent the day walking in my shoes - and i think it is safe to say he filled them exceptionally well!

He started the day by monitoring the number of children arriving late, thankfully we only had a few! Yasin learnt about the importance of good attendance and why I contact parents and carers when their child isn't in school - most importantly, to make sure they are safe and well.

Yasin also learnt about mental health and wellbeing and helped to create a special presentation that will be shared with the whole school in an upcoming assembly.

But, alongside attendance and mental health, Yasin's biggest takeaway from was that my job is ultimately about keeping children happy, safe and supported - both in and out of school.

Yasin made a fantastic Mini Ms Fenlon, and i absolutely loved having him walk in my shoes for the day!

Well done, Yasin - you were a superstar!*

Mrs Burns (The Avairy)

Dani-Anne will make an excellent teacher one day. She has kindness and patience in abundance, combined with strong practical skills - including mastering the printer and even the cutting machine.

She nurtured and encouraged the children during their reading and sentence-building activities and was fully hands-on during the phonics lessons.

She showed a lovely natural ability to engage with the children, support their learning and make them feel valued.

Most importantly she makes better slime than Mrs Burns! A very special achievement indeed.

Mrs Morris (Deputy Head / Inclusion)

A huge "Thank you" to Ahmed for joining me on Thursday for our "day in your shoes" experience. Ahmed was absolutely amazing, he represented the "School council" brilliantly.

It was so lovely to have the opportunity to share some of the work we do across school and give him an insight into what happens behind he scenes.

Ahmed, you were fantastic - thank you for being such a wonderful ambassador for our school.

Mr Somers (IT Technician)

Surafuel spent the day in my shoes and what an interesting day we both had.

We set up a new person to Stoke with an email address and Surafuel took a photo of herand printed her an ID card. We then had to configure a laptop for a teacher which Surafuel did. He was very cautious of what he was typing into the laptop but once he had the hang of it there was no stopping him. The day started off with Surafuel being very quiet and taking things in, by the end of the day he was full of questions about everything he was asked to do.

Surafuel is an IT person in the making, Congratulations Surafuel and thank you for being a mini Mr Somers for the day.

Mr Halford (Site Services Officer)

Thank you to Ethan, Ethan shared with Mrs Rowland and his mum that when he gets older he would like to be a Site Services Officer.

He helped Mr Halford complete lots of jobs during the day and even had his own badge and keys.

Thoroughly enjoyed the "Day he spent in Mr Halfords shoes".

Autumn Term 2025-26

The School Council shared their ideas for school and also what they would like to achieve whilst being a School Council Representative.

to change the entire school, make everyone's imagination, free.
Make items out of recycled items.
To make lots of changes to the school.
I want to make kids happy adding more toys, for example blocks for building
In year 3 and 4 people complain they have no space for bags and coats so I would want to try and give them more space.
I would like to have a garden area where there are flowers.

Parliament Week.

24th - 30th November.

We discussed where Parliament is, what it is for, who attends there and of course Big Ben.

School councillors for Key Stage 1 and lower Key Stage 2 created amazing artwork of the houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

They also completed a word search, this led to one of our children discussing Guy Fawkes and how long ago it was.

In Year 6 we had a huge debate "Do our parents spend too much time on their phones"

This created some of the most amazing discussions between the children. They also gave reasons for the choices. They showed great maturity.

The vote was counted and verified the majority of Year 6 believe that their parents do spend too much time on their phones.

Miss Waine had created two amazing posters - now another vote please see the winner.

The posters will be displayed on the play ground.

I think they are fabulous.

Spring Term

School council hoodies have arrived.

Don't they look amazing.

The children also began creating their idea boxes.

Excited to hear all of the ideas collected from each year group.

We have had so many wonderful ideas this year.

During our next meeting, our Year 6 School Council children (with the help from the rest of the school council) will be writing a letter to present to Mr Ascroft when they meet with him next week.

Our children have some amazing ideas, we have discussed them all at length.

I know they are very excited to share them whilst also explaining how their ideas would benefit the rest of the children.

They suggested a class pet, a magnetic board outside to be used during Opal, a slide, a swing and may others. Mr Ascroft said he would liaise with staff members and discuss the ideas.

Some of the school Council visited Pizza Express at the end of term which was amazing.

They kneaded their own dough and then made their pizza's. Whilst the pizza's were in the oven the children had the opportunity to try some delicious fresh ingredients.

The pizza's were taken back to school for the children to enjoy.

We ended the morning with a lollipop.

It was an absolute pleasure taking the School Council to Pizza Express, I hope they enjoyed the experience.
